Meet our Vision Team

The Vision team is in charge of overseeing our vision and is responsible for the management of the church. We asked them a few questions to tell you more about themselves.

How did you start to go to HCM?

I joined HCM in 2009. My fiancée and now wife was a student at UW Madison School of Pharmacy. She attended the church before we got married. I immediately connected with the people. It felt like home. I loved serving with the other members and was greatly encouraged to grow spiritually.

What is your most memorable moment at HCM?

I have so many good memories from HCM. A few years ago, I remember coming back from the OIL conference (at that time, on the east coast) in the church van. We drove 14-16hrs. We were pretty tired after the conference. Cameron was driving and I was on the passenger seat. We shared how we were blessed for about 4 hrs while the others were sleeping. I was so blessed, and not even tired!

What is your favorite verse?

It is difficult to choose one particular verse, but one that I particularly hold dear to my heart is Rom 5:8 "God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." I probably like this verse because I have sinned much. I was so ashamed of my sins. I try to run away as far as possible from Him, but in His great love, He brought me back to Him!

How did you start to go to HCM?

In 2010, I moved to Madison and was connected to HCM by a friend. I started coming to HCM every Sunday morning to help clean, vacuum, shovel snow, and take out the trash. As I was serving in these ways, God called me to consider being a worship leader. I soon realized that the real reason I was at HCM was because the church had been praying for a worship leader; HCM was praying for me and my ministry even before they knew me. Even before I came to Madison and even before I knew I was called to be a worship leader, God was already working and people were already praying for me.

What is your most memorable moment at HCM?

January 8, 2012. After going through a rough night, I found myself at church 5am in the morning on a snowy Sunday morning prepping to lead worship. One of the guys at HCM who had heard about my night got up early that morning to check-in on me at 6am. We didn’t do much talking. Just sat, cried, and prayed. This is memorable to me because I saw a guy who was willing to go the distance to care for me, someone he didn’t know well.

What is your favorite verse?

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9 My greatest weakness has always been speaking and my stuttering tongue. Along with that comes anxiety and stress whenever I speak with others, especially in front of a crowd. This does not stop God from using my weakness to serve him. He has used my weakness to lead worship for over 10 years now.

How did you start to go to HCM?

I started coming to HCM when my roommate, Eric, introduced me to the church. We were in the same fellowship in college, so it was helpful to already have a friend at this church.

What is your most memorable moment at HCM?

My most memorable moment(s) at HCM was my first trip to Haiti in 2014. The time spent preparing for the trip and the experiences I had when I was there started me on a growth path that has changed my perspective on life.

What is your favorite verse?

I don't have a favorite verse, but my favorite chapter in the Bible is Isaiah 53. When I read it, I am reminded and taught of Jesus's character. It makes me want to love Him more!
